I visited The Alpaca Loom in Paarl.

I visited The Alpaca Loom in Paarl.

So, here's how it went down. I woke up and really wanted to see some alpacas that day, so I started googling if that was possible around Cape Town. And guess what? It was! Let me tell you, this is one of the best date ideas I have for you around Cape Town.

 Location of The Alpaca Loom

The Alpaca Loom is located in Paars. It is a 60-minute drive from the Cape Town city center. My boyfriend Stijn and I headed to The Alpaca Loom. l. Since the park is open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, we decided to head there around noon. The drive to the park was incredibly enjoyable and scenic. You pass by beautiful vineyards and plenty of photo opportunities.

The Alpaca Loom restaurant

When we arrived at The Alpaca Loom, I was amazed. I really wanted to pet an alpaca right away, but when we first arrived at the restaurant and saw the view, we decided to grab a coffee first. You can sit outside or inside the restaurant, but if you sit outside on the terrace, you'll have an incredibly beautiful view of the farm and the entire landscape with stunning mountains in the background. The coffee here was delicious, but the real star was the gigantic red velvet cake we impulsively bought.

The Alpaca Loom fram

After enjoying our food and drinks, we were given the option to buy feed for the alpacas to feed them. Buying alpaca feed is very cheap. Then we first admired the alpacas from behind the fences, but later found out that we could also walk into their area. There are picnic benches where you can sit while the alpacas roam around. The alpacas all had different colored coats. The alpacas there are about 1 meter tall. Just as tall as I am (;

We could pet the alpacas and get very close to them. The alpacas came to us because we were so kind. Oh, and because we had a bag of food with us. My tip is to buy two bags of food instead of one bag for one person. It's very cheap to buy, and it's incredibly fun to feed the sweet animals. There are also a few other animals you can view, but you can't stand among them like with the alpacas.

The Alpaca Loom store

The alpacas live a wonderful life here. They're with many other alpacas and can roam over a large area. Besides being lovely animals to have around, they also use the alpacas here to produce fleece wool. There's a shop on-site where products made from alpaca wool are sold. There's also someone working on weaving the wool to make products from it. It's really cool to see.

It was tough to say goodbye to the alpacas, but then I heard the good news. You can adopt the alpacas and take them home to give them a good life. I tried to picture how the alpaca would fit in my suitcase if I bent its little neck, but unfortunately, that wasn't a good animal-friendly option. Alpacas can live for 15 to 20 years, so if you want an alpaca for that long, it's possible to get a new buddy here.

The park isn't very big, but I definitely recommend stopping by with your friends or partner for a wonderful experience.

Would you visit this park and perhaps take an alpaca home in a slightly more animal-friendly way?
