I visit the city food market Oranjezicht in Waterfront

If you want a tasty breakfast in the morning or a nice lunch in the afternoon, you should definitely visit the city food market, Oranjezicht, in the Waterfront area of Cape Town.

Food market Oranjezicht Location and Opening Hours

The food market is only open on weekends. It's open on Saturday from 8:15 AM to 2:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The food market is open all year round. The location of the City Farm Market is in the Waterfront area, which is about an 11-minute drive from Cape Town city center. Not only is the City Farm Market in Waterfront a great place to visit, but I'll also definitely explore the Waterfront for charming shops, the harbor, and cozy cafes. In addition to the food market, there is a covered parking lot. It's very spacious and located very close from the entrance. I've always been able to find parking here even on busy days.

What is the City Food Market Oranjezicht in the Waterfront?

It's a weekend farmers market suitable for everyone who enjoys coming. Families, locals just back from a workout session, tourists, and young people looking to start their day with a tasty snack and drink all come here. There's a lot of delicious and healthy organic food for sale, as well as fast food options. With such a diverse crowd and food selection, there's something for everyone. There are plenty of seating areas where you can enjoy your food and drinks. The chances of sharing a table with others are high, which, in my opinion, adds to the cozy atmosphere. Besides food, you can also buy various items such as clothing, skincare products, and household items. So, it's really enjoyable to take your time in the morning or afternoon to stroll around.

My experience with the City Food Market Oranjezicht in the Waterfront

I prefer to go to this food market every weekend. However, I haven't done so because I'd probably have to buy two seats for myself on the plane ride home. It's not just about grabbing a bite to eat; it's also really enjoyable to explore. I love markets. All the locals prepare and sell their own food there. I've never bought any items there because I always pack so much in my suitcase that I can't bring anything back. Does that sound familiar? (;

However, I've definitely tried lots of food and drinks and always leave feeling satisfied. What I like to start with is a fresh smoothie made solely from fruit or a fresh coconut that's cut right there for you. These are two different food stalls. After getting my drink, I set out for a tasty snack. What I highly recommend is the Bao you can get there. I always get a Bao with shredded meat. A Bao is a soft, steamed bun from Taiwan and China. There's also a stall that sells spring rolls. I find that combination perfect together. If I still have a little room left (which is actually never the case), I finish with a Nutella crepe with banana. I enjoy that they make the crepe right there, and you can watch how everything is prepared. As you can see, there's truly a wide variety of food to choose from, and all of it is very diverse.

My experience is that it's usually very crowded, and it's really special if you can find a seat to eat quietly. I mostly eat standing up. Also, it's not windy there at all despite being by the water. Everything is covered with tarps, and because it's crowded, it's very warm inside. Wearing something light is not a bad idea.

What's a bit disappointing is that the same stalls and the same items are always there, selling the same food over the years I've been going there. However, this isn't a big deal for me because I usually get the same food and drinks, and I really look forward to having them again.

Have you ever been to this city food market in the Waterfront? What do you think I should definitely try eating?
