Wine tasting at Boschendal

I went wine tasting at Boschendal.

I went with a group of 14 people to do a wine tasting at Boschendal. I'd like to share my experience from that afternoon.

The Location of the Winetasting at Boschendal

The winetasting location is in Boschendal. This place is about 75 minutes away from Cape Town center by car.

We booked 4 days in advance because all the wine farms fill up quickly. This wine farm is open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:30. The last chance to sit at a table is at 17:00. After 17:30, the farm closes and you have to leave. There is plenty of parking next to the farm. However, you need to pay attention to which part of the farm you booked because we also initially walked in the wrong direction.

The tables and chairs look very romantic. You sit next to the restaurant and next to a large open grass field. You also have a view of beautiful mountains on the left side. You can walk around the garden at the location. However, there's not much to see here, and the garden mainly consists of a large grass field.

About the wine tasting at Boschendal

There's a menu with a wide selection of wines. We wanted to taste a bit of everything, so we chose the 1685 Range Tasting menu for R150. That's about €7.50. With this choice, you get 3 white wines and 3 red wines. I think that's very cheap and perfect for our age and lack of wine knowledge. However, they pour the red wine into the same 3 glasses after you've finished the white wine. I couldn't even taste a 1% difference because of this, but for real wine experts, this might be something to note. I really enjoy red wine and enjoyed this choice. It's nice that they explained something about each wine.

We also ordered snacks. We chose the farm baked bread and spreads for R90. That's about €4.50. We also chose the cheese platter for R250. That's about €12.50. You get quite a lot for this price, and it tasted really good with the wine.

I think for the price, you have a really fun afternoon and I definitely recommend doing this with your partner or friends. You sit very quietly and romantically with others on the terrace. It's nice that you can sit with a big group of young people who, of course, have a slightly different purpose on the terrace than real wine experts. (; However, people of all ages are present. What I found unfortunate is that we had to leave at 17:30. Personally, I find it cozy if you can still sit together in the evening. If you really want an experience where you have a beautiful view over the vineyards, I wouldn't go here. I've been to a wine farm in Constantia before, and there we had a view of a vineyard. This felt more special.

If you know of a place in Boschendal or somewhere else around Cape Town where I really should have a glass of wine, please let me know. Who knows, maybe we'll discover that place together.
